Believe it or not, the muckety-mucks of DPC have given me the reins of the Art of 2014 jury.

This jury consists of myself, bohemka, daisydavid, herfotoman, mariuca and RKT

Our primary way of awarding photographs will be by writing about them. The ones that inspire us to write something will make our winners' thread.

If we can achieve consensus, we'll pick top dog, second banana, etc, depending on what you serve up to us. There will be no mathematical formulae, just 6 people writing about photography.

How did I choose this jury? Well, my philosophy was one of expending the least amount of energy. This meant as small a jury as possible, chosen as quickly as possible. These were the people who first came to mind as opinionated, eloquent and likely to have the time and will to do this. All were kind enough to accept my challenge.

Yeah, we're not so much judging as responding to your work. If you want judgement, go forth to your gods, your psychologists and meter maids.

As usual, we'll give a day of glory to the conventional ribbon winners before we announce our picks, but all our picking will be done before turnover.

The official jury wrangler has spoken!!! Questions and comments may now commence.

I like the method. If an entry makes me stop and look at it longer, or pause to write something, I find it deserving of extra pointage regardless of the technical aspects. So, that works for me.

not exactly a movie that surprised me, and yet quite delightfully presented.

Is it possible for you all to vote and comment, individually and as you normally do, and THEN band together to discuss and eat bananas?

This is allowed, except I would ask my jury to bag their heads while commenting, so they don't fuel speculation.

What if lots of us bagged our heads - and really made an effort to comment on this one?

I double dare you. That would be a wonderful thing.

Will do. Anyone want to join me? Even a few comments each from lots of "bagged" members would release the jury, I think.

I am out on this one, I deleted a lot of my original RAW files not thinking I would need them..
and the raw files I do have, I do not think they are art of anything or worth even submitting. it will be fun to watch from the sidelines, I have my pom poms and some cheers ready

I'll be in with an entry - I'm thinking it's gonna be a tough race for the brown, harder than 'best of'.

But I'll comment 100%.

Never done it that way, but if that's the game, I'll play ball.

Too bad you can't bag your head for certain challenges.

I'll do it too if enough people commit.

To clarify, so at any time during the week we should put baggies on and make our comments as you all will? Is that the idea?

I've gone and bagged my head ... seems people were telling me to do this half a century ago.

I highly doubt that.

You can bag an unbag at will, for any challenge

Yeah, but if you make a comment bagged and then unbag yourself, the comment goes clear also; so you have to stay bagged until the results are announced...
02/21/2015 11:57:29 PM · #24
Yes, of course. And you become unbagged at rollover anyway
02/22/2015 08:24:06 AM · #25
So many wonderful entries in this challenge! I am so much more disappointed in the lack of comments on my image rather than the score itself. The goal is to learn and evoke some type of feeling from my fellow photographers --- good or not so good, it doesn't matter to me. That being said, thank you to bmartuch and bob350 !
