Hey everyone, my name is Rebekah and I am new to this site. I'm really interested in learning things about photography. I got my first DSLR in February,so I'm still learning the basics. I'm intrigued with all the things to know about cameras and photography in general.
I have to say the work on this site is amazing! Give yourself a round of applause its well deserved! I look forward to many challenges and learning more! :)

Welcome to the addiction! The first step in the program is to check the date and time on your camera & then repeat after me...
"I will not get DQ'd because of the date on my camera!"
"I will not get DQ'd because of the date on my camera!"

Welkum to tribe of Grog. Take place on small rock at back of cave and not disturb tribal elders with silly kwestuns about eyso aperitchur and kompuzish compozishun cumpi making bettur pikchurs.

Don't listen to Grog. I usually only let him out during freestudies, but someone forgot to put the boulder in front of the cave entrance again.

Yawwwwwnnnnnn.... Welcome aboard, Rebekah. However, I'm NOT "the" Canon genius, nor am I likely to be until I get my seasonal ration of Scrapple (in joke)...

Seriously, if you have questions, fire away. They'll all get answered eventually, even some of them by Grog...

Even though I have a horrible head cold I will crawl the 1.7 miles to the butcher and beg him to pack it in ice orrrrrr

unless of course I have a D>P>C> get together here at the farm this summer and you can get it your self......

why do I feel like I am back in high school owing a professor a term paper...... (I need SOMETHING I can procrastinate about....might as well be scrapple.....I'm worried it will arrive soggy and rancid) ewwww

Welcome, Rebeka!! Glad to see others have chimed in on the camera time/date thing. The OTHER really important thing is to never, ever, EVER delete or alter the original image in any way. Create a copy of it to work on in your editing software, because it's what you need to submit for verification in the event you place in the top 5, or because someone suspects a rules violation*. You may think it will be years before you ribbon, but... YOU. NEVER. KNOW.

* Make sure you understand the editing rules :)

Welcome! First lesson to learn: shoot in RAW and set the color space of your camera (it's somewhere in the menu) in Adobe RGB mode. At least, that's what they said at (photography) school. No complaints yet about that.

Bear is the genius??? Bear... is the genius???

OK, I guess we're learning how to suck up to the site council right away. ;P

Just because bear is one of the ultimate authorities on everything CPC, photographic, and Photoshop in nature does NOT make him the canon genius.

(Oh wait, I'm still trying to figure out the switching of the focus button to the back, and why I'd want to do something silly like that.

Hang on, I need to go ask bear...

Be right back...

(And welcome until then...)

I met Robert and Penny....they took me and Jeb to a very nice restaurant on the Cape...... I'm not "sucking up" to site council....Robert is our friend. You could be too....want some visitors? Where shall we go for dinner and what shall we shoot? :-))))). I would LOVE for anyone to stop by the farm or our Gallery if anyone is passing through the Harrisburg Pa./Barren's Valley area this summer! Let's shoot pix and have a picnic!

I was teasing you... :)

I've met up with Bear a couple of times now, and he's awesome. (I actually was teasing bear even more than teasing you. :)

He's been one of my go to guys for questions since I first started. It was all definitely said tongue-in-cheek.

Congratulations on getting a Canon!! (Just a little dig at Nikon-ites...) Welcome. Some great people here with lots of good advice, suggestions, wisdom, humor, and the like. I've learned a great deal from them and DO appreciate the humor. Enter the challenges whenever you can. Ask for help...you'll get it. Join in the fun. You've come to a great place.
