Let's see some good scores!

Mine isn't one. 1 vote of 4.

I really liked my entry... until I went through all the others and found about 50 others I like more. Well done.

I like the comment to vote ratio.

9 very unhappy voters. Seems they failed to recognize just how visionary a work of art my entry is!

Visionary? Ok, team member, I'll grant that it's visible, but.....
;)
That's ok. The same voters hate mine too.

I gave so much to go out and catch this green fly. Then went though the who whole process, without so much of my old equipment, to set a system up. 100 mm/f/2.8 with 50 mm reversed and f/8.
Unforeseen circumstances and equipment problems made my 30 min late. Did we start the DST?

However, this is what I have to enter. Breaks my heart, I really like it.

Holy smokes, Peter! That is just ridiculous!! What an outstanding image!

Peter,
So unfortunate that you were not able to get your image in. I think it would be a hot competitor; certainly would best mine, and I don't think I'm doing badly :-)

Manic, friend, dear friend, DPC friend and okay, brother, bro or my King; note that I DID NOT ENTER! That was a lament on the image I was too late to post.

I got up in a hell of a pain, traveled more than an hour to a place where I hoped to find some insects. ad to take some more pain meds. I got nothing but this, actually very small baby green fly which I caught in a plastic coffee container.
Then I came home and set up my reading lamp, my desktop tripod, my macro plate. In that time I had to medicate myself again. The poor fly was spending some time in my refrigerator. BTW, he is perfect and flew off on release.

I took my dedicated, old broken wide open 50 mm with the reverse ring and attached it to my dearest 100 mm f/2.8 macro. Took only 8 images before my unwilling star got too lively again.

Then, disaster. Nothing worked. Got the mouse to work with new batteries but the keyboard remained as dead as a door nail. I rushed to work, hoping to do something with my images and enter one. By the time I did it... I was too late by about 28 minutes.

Not looking for sympathy. I am telling you a story of dedication and against all odds to make something work. Unfortunately I could not control the time. As my life is shared with my DPC family I wanted to impress them with my ability, dedication and initiative. How my image can harm or influence anyone I simply can not see.

So I am waving my big poster crying foul, screaming racial profiling, and murder. I demand it being put up again or I will march naked in the streets of New York at two on Monday. Why discriminate against me, just because I grew up in poverty. Or is it because I am incurable lesbian?

Awww, Doc, Luckily I saw the shot before it was removed. But I felt bad, because I knew it would be removed.

It's just a policy of the site, and manic was just doing his job. It's always been that you're not supposed to post outtakes until the challenge is over (outtakes include shots that didn't make it in because of timing problems).

Think of it this way -- and this is quite truthful -- your shot really could influence the voting. Your shot was truly incredible and quite awesome. If people have similar shots in the challenge, the voters now have something that shows what could have and should have been. What may have been impressive before, may now be less impressive after seeing what you were able to do.

That's how I always viewed the rule, and in this case, I think it has merit, because it truly was an awesome image. :)

Now. I think you should still march through New York, naked, on Monday. We could all have a gtg and photograph it!! But it would be kind of silly, because you could post the outtake on Monday. So if you're going to march naked, you should do it before Monday. :)

And about the lesbian bit....

oh, nevermind... :)

Good to see you kickin'!!!

I hate that you missed the challenge.

Btw, I hear that doc has a picture of an insect that has absolutely nothing to do with this challenge, that if you want to see it, he could probably PM you.... ;)

I will be watching the outtakes thread for this challenge because now I really want to see Peter's "the one that got away " shot.

There are 10 entries that are neither insect, bug or beetle.

Edited to add another non insect, non bug, non beetle to the tally.

Peter....I'm curious, when you reverse mount the 50mm lens to your 100mm macro, how are you opening the aperture of the 50mm since there's no electrical contact with the lens?

In my mind, the lens aperture will be closed when off the camera?

Canon lens apertures are fully open when removed from the camera.

For Nikon, I believe it is. But then again, everything about Nikon is backward! ;-)

Am glad that it is a special challenge for bugs so they won't be crawling too often in other challenges (just kidding!)
This being said, I'll mark all pics with 7 and from there I move up.

Insect people, you did great, you and your state of the art cameras!
There are some odd lot insects here that I like a lot ...

Funny, half of the time it takes "state of the 80's" gear, instead. Just gotta know how to use it :)
