?? what are you talking about?

Everything, really. A "protection workaround" plan can only lead to burnt eyebrows, children or a Darwin award. Please disregard... I was only trying to have a little fun on a dark day.

Ok, gotcha. no worries. i've been burned/shocked/cut/disemboweled many times. I can handle it. :)

Alrighty - I just wanted to post a quick status tonight before I pass out go to sleep.

We have a total of 51 volunteers: 22 female, 29 male. The poem is 27 verses. I am going to try and alternate female/male voices. I have picked 34 people for the voice recordings and each will record two verses, of which I will plan on using the best one. The ones I picked were mainly based on their indicated desire to do a reading. The ones left out either did not indicate a desire or indicated they did not want to do voice. So, 34 voices, 27 verses means I will have to cut 7 people from the final. The volunteers whose voices do not make it into the final will get priority in the use of photos for the slideshow (assuming they have something that fits). I am trying to be all-inclusive, but undoubtedly someone will be left out. Please don't take it personally.

With that, here is the list of voices I will assign tomorrow:

Females:
beatabg
BeckyT
Beetle
colorcarnival
grahamgator
Judi
JulietNN
Kelli
LoVi
LydiaToo
MaryO
PennyStreet
Samantha_T
SaraR
tanguera
tnun
vawendy

Males:
alanfreed
Alexkc
Bear_Music
blindjustice
bohemka
Brent_S
Devinder
DSeale
EL-ROI
FourPointX
Giles_uk
gyaban
MNet* (she volunteered her husband)
Pug-H
RayEthier
timfythetoo
Yo_Spiff

If you are on the above list and don't think you will be able to provide a recording, please let me know asap and I'll get replacements if necessary. We have a very short time to get this done before Christmas, so please commit only if you can. If you need technical help, look down this thread for some helpful stuff Beetle posted or ask in this thread and someone will (hopefully) volunteer to assist or instruct you via PM.

If you are not on the above list, as I said, it is because you indicated no desire (or a desire NOT to) participate in the voice part OR it is because you are already participating in the other aspects (music, writing).

Photo Collectors: The following people will be assigned to collect specific types of photos from the portfolios that have been offered for use:
GinaRothfels
mariuca
Melethia
PamB
cowboy221977
dtremain
jmritz
mbrutus2009
MinsoPhoto
NathanWert
RyanWareham
spiritualspatula
Tiny
* I actually may only need 5 or 6 people, so if you want to opt out of this responsibility, let me know.

On another note, I will need some decent photoshoppers (2 or 3 maybe) to do some PS work - I'll have some specifics when I put the final batch of images together. Any volunteers for that?

I'll dole out verses for voices and photo collection after waiting for a few responses to this tomorrow later today. Thanks y'all! (Funny, I only say "y'all" online) ;-)

Awesome!! Now I have to figure out how to do this. :)

If anyone has recommendations as to the best way of recording, I'd appreciate the input. :)

Do you have a smart phone such as an Android or iPhone? If so, there are some free apps that allow you to record.

Yup -- have a droid. I didn't know if that was better than a mic hooked up to a computer. Curious what's the best quality. (least background noise)

Can I inhale some helium before saying my lines Ken?

Someone made a comment that they were surprised my voice was so deep on the 06 recording - I probably never confessed that I edited my voice - but who woudl expect anything else from me? ;-) Do whatever you think will be fun.

I guess I probably sound funny enough without helium enhancement ;)

Speaking of the '06 recording; I heard it years ago but can someone provide a link to it now?

ETA: Nevermind! Found the link :P

Ok, I am about to send out the assignments, but I decided to change my strategy a little. I have split the volunteers into 3 groups and the individuals in each group will read a total of 9 verses. This will give me max coverage, redundancy, flexibility and possibilities for remixes later on. I will include the entire poem in the PM to the readers and your assigned portion will be bolded.

Ideally, you will record each verse to it's own file and name it "Verse_1_yourusername.mp3" or something that makes it easy to identify who and what. I also ask when you record each verse, that you start by saying the verse #, then a very brief pause and then start the verse. I'll cut the unnecessary stuff out in post. Hopefully I am not making this too complicated.

Email your files as soon as they are ready to art at artroflmao dot com. If you have any questions, feel free to reply in your group's PM thread or post here, but please do not reveal the poem here publicly.

Don't sweat it or get frustrated if it is too much to deal with - we should have plenty of redundant coverage. Have fun with it. :)

Looking forward to putting it together! Do you have a deadline for when you'd like these to be completed? I'm planning to work on it on Monday when I'll have the house to myself and I can be as loud and obnoxious as necessary :)

I would like to have them all to me by late Wednesday.

Ken, when I record on my iPhone the quality is quite good but the files are saved with an .m4a extension. Will that work for you or should I find an app that can convert them to .mp3?
Thanks!

ETA: Would it be easier for you if we zipped all nine files into one folder rather than sending several attachments separately with one message?

*Kind of answering my own question about the file type here. I found on my Mac I can simply change the extension of my iPhone recording from .m4a to .mp3 and it seems to play fine on my Mac and Windows 7 too (no conversion app required). I can't hear any drop in sound quality by doing this change, but then I don't hear very well. But most likely other iPhone/Mac users can convert to .mp3 the same way- unless .m4a is fine for you Ken?

Mp3 is preferable, Brent, if it's not too much hassle.

Thanks Karin, you rock! You, too, Brent.

Okay, .mp3s on the way then :)
