Can I get a " jagar" for this?

Pass.

I've seen some cool examples, but how are we supposed to do that in advanced editing?

The challenge was suggested as expert editing but it seems the challenge has been made even tougher with advanced editing. (taps fingers on head pondering a solution)

It would be great if someone could chime in with some expertise on the technique!!! How would you get a blurry background with a person nice and sharp?? Long exposure with camera movement then a second curtain flash??? Or just a serendipitous background??

Something like this, perhaps?

Except for the one example Steve posted (which is admittedly kind of cool) everything I have seen in the genre so far would require expert editing. I really don't see any way to do this subject justice without expert editing, yet we have had so many expert challenges lately.
Perhaps this topic should have been done some other time...?

Would using motion blur be allowed?

Some of these look like they could be created with a slight blur to certain objects.

Especially this one and this one.

Or would this be "creating new image area"?

This screams Cutout all over it.

If the lady were a little more recognizable, would this qualify?

This is the first good example of an abstract image with a person that I've seen so far. Most of the other examples shown (via thumbnail or link) have not met my understanding of abstract art, which requires the subject to be unrecognizable

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure I understand what the challenge requires. The examples given mainly had abstract backgrounds with silhouettes of people overlaid. Took that photo for the eyes closed challenge. Time to close my eyes again.

I know I'm ignorant, but can't you just focus on your subject and then unfocus with a bit of a turn to create blur (not during the shutter press, but before).

Or zoom in/out while the shutter is open?

Based on the last abstract macro challenge, you should not assume that "abstract" will be the primary criteria for judging.

Another take on this would be a photo of some noise that happens to form the image of a person.....like the image of mary on burnt toast. This would also not meet the definition of abstract, but who cares I love toast.

But that would not meet the challenge description: "Create an abstract photo that has 1 or more people in the frame." Something that LOOKS like a person is not a person. A statue or action figure would not work either.

If it's abstract, how do you prove that there is a person in the photo?

Great question! :-P

If the person looks like they are on an abstract toast shape, I'm gonna err on the side that it's faked en croute vs. you build a large toast shape backdrop. :)

I think you can get abstract without going for blur.

There are lots of abstract opportunities in architecture. And the challenge description doesn't say you have to get the whole, entire person in the shot.

But what happens if the person with the red coat was really a person with a red coat? Is it still DNMC?

Nothing in that photo gives any other appearance...
