These things look nice. Simplicity of the Plus II units yet functions and features galore, like the Multimax.

Old Plus II units
4 Channels
$169
Manual buttons
no groups

New Plus III units
32 Channels
$139
Digital buttons
4 lighting groups

Good to see that competition in this area is generating some downward price pressure and upward feature pressure :-)

exactly. B&H are still selling the Plus II units for $169 while the new Plus III units are available for pre-order at $139 0_o :) I think they'll either be setting up a discount soon or have a lot of Plus II units sitting on their shelves.

i wonder if you can use the older 2's as part of the groupings?

I just this weekend bought a set of PW plus II's from MPEX on Ebay for $150 each. Then this am I saw B&H listed these. Exactly the story of my life. The only good thing is, when those start shipping I'll be able to save $30 each when I buy them and sell my Cybersyncs.

yeah, I'm pretty sure all PW units talk with eachother.

yeah not just talk though as i take it there will be some smart grouping going on allowing individual control so i guess the older ones are limited to groups 1-4?

Sorry I didn't see the groupings part. No, I can't see how the older wizards could work with the groups. Channels and groups are two different things and the old ones just had 4 channels and no groups. The new ones have 32 channels and 4 groups.

I called Midwest Photo Exchange where I made the ebay purchase of the set this weekend. And they agreed to let me return them, even though they haven't shipped. And are going to let me buy a set of the new ones. So I'll have the new ones when they come in.

Great customer service. I'm sure they are none too happy about the new model's pricing, it's going to make the old model damn hard to get rid of at the normal price.

No doubt about that. Although since I made the purchase through Ebay, and the next purchase will be directly through them, they will save the Ebay fees plus the percentage they would pay. So they may end up with the same amount of $$ from me anyway. Besides they made me really happy and I'll likely to spend money with them again based on this customer service action.

Maybe pocket wizard will take the old ones back.. or I suppose, if they sell them at cost - surely they'll be cheaper than the new ones. There must be more than $30 mark up on those.

Are these models e-TTL?
