Some people are really liking the new carmera, but looks like same issues. Your thoughts? I do not think it even comes close to a point and shoot even.

Sorry, gotta take this opportunity to rant. I'm getting a little tired of the nonstop Apple hype on all the tech sites I keep up with. You'd think Apple was the only tech company out there. Sheesh.

I hear Apply got a 5% hit in share prices since revealing it.

I'm sure the camera is improved, but what I hate about the iphone camera hasn't changed, having to touch the screen to take the shot, while keeping it still, pointed in the same direction and without putting your hand over the lens. It's downright awkward!

For the first time in a while, apple dropped the ball. My house is full of apple stuff....3 MacBooks....1 iMac...1 iPad....2 apple tv...and Three iPhones. I would have switched to iPhone from my original Droid if the iPhone screen would have GROWN. With the super amoled hd screens coming out in about a month, there was no way for me to justify switching to the iPhone.

The iPhone 5 better come out within a year and do some ass kicking or they will be left behind.

Actually if you read in to it a bit more you will find that you will be able to use one of the `volume` button to take the shot - more like a proper point and shoot. In fact I believe a feature of iOS5 will mean that it also works on the iPhone4 & 3GS.

What an utterly bizarre reaction to the new iPhone! A downright major upgrade of the world's most popular (by far) smartphone, and people are complaining the that case and name didn't change? The existing model was outpacing Android growth, with 46% of smartphone buyers shopping for Apple vs. 32% for Android, a satisfaction rating of 70% vs. 43% for the next best phone, and despite the fact that Android had already been available at Sprint, T-Mobile, etc. In fact, T-Mobile apparently already has a million customers who have shelled out $600 for unlocked iPhones to use on their network. So now it's much faster, features improved antennas, global compatibility, a better camera/video system, cloud services, a shockingly advanced voice command system... and people are suddenly going to flock to Android? LOL, not likely.

The iPhone is already the most popular camera on Flickr, and now it will be improved with 8MP, better color, faster response, an f/2.4 lens, HDR, and likely stabilization (already implemented on the video side). The fact that you have to touch a button, hold the camera still, point it at the thing you want to shoot and avoid putting your hand over the lens sounds like, you know... a camera, and one of the world's most popular models just got better.

Siri will get a LOT more attention once people start working with it, and the naysayers will predictably wind up looking as foolish as those who said nobody would ever buy a $400 MP3 player, the iPad would fail, and the iPhone 3GS wouldn't sell. I'm constantly amused by my brother, who has always viewed Apple with contempt, then buys lookalike phone and tablet computers and complains that they don't work well. Critics only have a week or two to declare the new iPhone lame before it blows away sales records at launch time. Again.

Taking photos with a phone is still OFF to me, so care less about that.
It may look the same but the internals are beefed up a ton. Yes a new iPhone 5 and design would have made people happier, but I am sure in June or September next year, the ball babies will be on the wagon again.
Don't know why everyone wants the screens bigger...it's a PHONE (I jailbreak mine, so like a small computer, still), there is a limit on how useable it is as a phone and screen size and being portable in a pocket, Want a bigger screen? Get one of those freakin 7in pads or an iPad or something.
I am sure people would have WAH'd and cried and threaten "I'm getting an Android" when iPhone went from 3 to 3GS, even though it looked the same-thing had major upgrades.
Go to Android...PLEASE...easier for me to order my iPhone 4S on Friday then.
DId I mention I am still on a 3G...why I'm upgrading.

I'm an Apple fan...but that tiny screen has got to go. I need a device I can use as a phone as well as a computer....without pinching and zooming to read a news story. Lot's of Apples in my house....but I'm upgrading to the next Android - Droid or Nexus Prime.

Never had an Iphone. I love my Motorola Photon. Just wish it had the laptop dock like the Atrix and Bionic. Booo Sprint.

If I had an iPhone, could I talk on it using my home wireless internet, bypassing my cell provider minutes/plan ?

Not on it's own...maybe some kind of go between though.

Hmmm... The only way I'd get a fancy cell phone up here in Canadurr would be if I could avoid extra provider fees, which are out of control up here in the third world.

I plan to order a 64 Gb iPhone 4S on Friday 10/7, expecting delivery on or about 10/14. I'll trade in my 2 year old 32Gb 3GS for $150. Am happy to pay $249 to boot for the camera, iCloud and the improved speed. To me, this is about integration of my apple devices.

Sure, put the iPhone in airplane mode (no cell service) and connect over WiFi using Skype.

... that don't impress me much.
So you got the moves, but have you got the touch?
Don't get me wrong, yeah I think you're alright
But that won't keep me warm in the middle of the night.

But to make calls to non-skype users you need to pay up !

I would LOVE to integrate my phone with all my Apple stuff. Using my kid's iPhone to control my Apple TV is GREAT....but I NEED A BIGGER SCREEN ON MY SMARTPHONE ! My nearly three year old Droid has a screen to match the iPhone but it's too small !

That would be worth it. I'm Surprised at Shannon's shadiness, though. :-P

I doubt it. The screen size may be the same, but the iPhone panel is a much higher resolution. Likewise, the Canon 40D and 60D both have 3" screens— the similarities end there.

Skype is pretty cheap, and there are free, non-Skype options, too. You can also video conference with other iPhone users via Facetime for free.

You may be able to pick up and old 3G without a contract or package...but I'm not sure if wifi will even work on it? Let me know if it does because once my daughter upgrades, I'll take her IP4 and use it around the house !

Yes...it is brighter than my Droid...but the new Super Amoled screens kill everything out there....and no...they don't drain the battery. There's 5 of them running around my office and they are sharp, bright and fast.
