We all know it, this site doesn't update frequent enough, and that's partly why we're losing subscribers. I believe (could be wrong about this... ) that people really just want o see something new. After a while, the site loses its charm. We need a developer (not naming any names) who's willing to put time and effort into developing new features. Does any know know if Langdon would be up to something like this, or what his stance my be on the issue? If not someone from the site, some web developer hired.

I know a good person for the job... But I name no names... He is #1 on many people's list though... That's my only hint. Haha!

Yes something new would be nice to see.

As do I... The individual in question certainly has proved their worthiness.

Would be nice to have new features. What else would be of benefit? Might be a good place to list our demands if someone is hired or if changes are made.

An in-built vote tracker for members would be neat! :-)
In site chat would be also nice. A lot of the pm threads I have are extended chats anyway.
Upload images from pm windows to avoid uploading from the workshop or portfolio would he really nice.

This site is so robust, has such fabulous navigation, awesome statistics, and quick response (especially considering the overhead of all the images), I seriously doubt that people are quitting because there isn't new stuff often enough.

If you want new stuff all the time go to Facebook -- and listen to the users complain about having everything change just when they were finally getting comfortable with the old format.

People aren't commenting. People aren't voting. The forums aren't as busy. These are all results of people losing interest. Innovation is how we bring users back. So... why not innovate?

Day 1:
Facebook User #1: "God the new Facebook SUCKS!"

Day 2:
Facebook User #2: "Hey look! You're using the new Facebook!"
Facebook User #1: ..."What new Facebook?"

I was browsing through the archives here; One of the Free Studys a few years back had 618 entries! I've only been here a few months, but that amount is almost double what we see now-a-days...

Seriously though, it seems sad to see this site losing its steam. Rather then just shooting down my ideas of changing the site, does anyone have any others? Possibly advertising or something?

What are your ideas exactly? "Change" covers a lot of ground. Any single example will do.

Advertising? Surely there is the occasional thing, DPC for example, that is too sacred to become yet another canvas for advertisements.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I do vote (a lot)... I hardly comment because I don't need the aggravation from people who truly cannot appreciate the fact that their images are bland at best. With regards to the forums, most of them are so boring they truly deserve to die a quick death... Losing interest, not me.

Fact is, there are simply too many things to keep people occupied these days... this site is just another venue.

Advertising of the site, I mean. Maybe in magazines. Adding ads to THIS site? No way.

Even a simple change in background I think would make a for a new look. Also a notification system. Comments mainly. Just run it on the same "refresh" time as the voting. on ever 0:10 hours. (1:10...2:10...ETC)

I think that would make people want to comment more. A voting reward for every 1k votes would be nice. Something to put onto your profile page. Simple things could make this site boom again. Just my opinion.

Would love to have the voting graph that is shown at the end of voting showing along with the update button (a nice feature for paid members maybe). It is anonymous so I can't see that any harm could come of it but it would be nice to see what votes you are receiving along the way.

A popup when you have a private message. Not a popup for everyone, just one that reminds you that there is mail if you have only just logged on and one that pops up if someone messages you whilst on line.

Oh, sincere apologies. I'm sorry I misunderstood you so badly.

I agree that at the very least there should be some advertising of this site done in other venues. Perhaps an advertisement of this site could be run on other photography sites such as dpreview.
Ideally, it would pay for itself with more members coming and buying more membership fees.

It always amuses me when I see a loaded question as a topic discussion.

If you want an answer PM Langdon

I think this site is very close to perfect as it is. I think it is great there are less entries in the free studies... As it is there is hardly time to vote and comment on 1/4 of what is on offer at any given moment. Possibly I am slow. Possibly I am too intense. Possibly I have learned to be more thoughtful since I have been here.

What is this "losing steam?"

Well, overall I'm fine with this place, but I would like to see a more user friendly interface for editing your profile page. Those tiny little text boxes for editing (on 'My Preferences' page) are ridiculously small.

in the new vernacular, assuming
"+1"
means "I agree"
well then, I agree with tnun.

Losing steam?

No more commenting. Where are the comments. On average, I get about 3 comments on my pics these days.

Mildly curious, how many comments do you give each Challenge, ApertureJack? Probably lots more than three...
