Anyone interested in it? It's not earth-shattering, but it's a nice upgrade from the old 3G, which is the one I have now.

A 5 megapixel camera with 720p (?) HD video. I think we could use that cell phone camera gallery. Also has a front-facing camera for video calls (wi-fi only in 2010 -- Jobs says they have to "work on" the carriers).

The new OS more than the phone interests me. But I am now 2 generations behind on the hardware. So unlike me. ;-)

I get a free upgrade every twelve months on my business tariff so me and the other half will be getting our iPhone 4s..

How much can I get for a second hand 3GS (x2)?

I don't think you can upgrade the 3G to iOS4. You'll simply have to upgrade your phone. :P

You can, but you won't get multi-tasking. But then, that's the most significant part of the new OS, so yeah, new phone coming.

You can upgrade it but some new features won't be available (I think the multitasking???).

I'm really excited. I have the 3G too and I'm sooooo looking forward to this one. A little flash on the camera... hd video... even imovie (that looks really cool!).

I missed that this was coming (only saw it on Gizmondo last week) - upgraded from 3G to 3GS about 5 weeks ago (18 month contract) which is annoying!

Hmmm - I might even be interested depending on what you were after :- )

I wonder if the OS upgrade will be for a cost, or free. Wasn't it free on the iPhone when it went to version 3?

I still have the original 1st gen iPhone, contracts up, so will be getting the iPhone4 when it comes out. I'm not a big high techie guy but I like the 5mp camera and multitasking... It's probably more than I need but what the heck :)

IOS 4 upgrades for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G (the latter sans multitasking) and for iPod touch free on June 24th.

So when I order and activate my new one, does my old 3g become a app laden camera and iPod (no phone features) or does it become a brick?

And will all my apps move to the new phone AND stay on the old one, or will I need to purchase them again if I want them on both?

I think you'll have yourself an iPod Touch. You can always transfer apps to multiple devices using one iTunes account and not pay extra.

I am just so bummed I was hoping they were going to say - and.... it's available TODAY!

I was all ready to run down there and buy my new phone. I have the first generation and yes that was three years ago and I am ready for an upgrade!! Yippee!!

Cool--thanks. I checked on the apple support forums, also: One can order online on the 15th (though what time of day the ordering will be possible is not clear yet). The phone will be delivered on the 24th, and must be signed for at delivery. Activating it via iTunes will automatically deactive the phone functions of your previous iphone, at which point it becomes an ipod touch like device. Apps can be synced to both without extra charge. You can't just move your sim card from the old to the new, and the new one uses a micro sim card in any case, so not compatible.

When you place the order, you enter your phone number, and they look up your eligibility for the no fee upgrade. Payment is taken when you order, not when it ships. So, I have been asking what happens if they run out of stock: will orders be declined until stock is received, or will they ask if we want to accept a later delivery, or if the backorder delay is significant, will they then change to charging the credit card only when they are preparing to ship (like if it is a month or two delay). It seemed like ipad buyers had to wait an unexpected amount of time for the units to ship.

So, if ordering online, their plan is for you to receive the phone the same day as if you went to the Apple Stores in person.

My daughter has an I-phone, my wife a Blackberry. I purchased my wife a non-3G Ipad for Mother's Day.

I myself have a Verizon Droid. I'm very satisfied with the Droid. One BIG feature is the ability (via a third party app)to tether to my laptop or any other computer for that matter. The tether allows the computer to use the phone's 3G network.

In the next Android update(2.2)it will have built-in wifi "hotspot". This allows you to connect up to 6 external devices to your phone via it's wifi. So I can connect Ipod touch, Ipad, laptop etc. I'm sure Verizon will find some way to limit or at least charge for this service. If so, I'll probably stick to tether.

Yeah but the Android based HTC Evo 4G is actually a real 4G phone. Unfortunately the new iPhone still runs only on a 3G network. In addition the HTC Evo 4G has some stronger features. It will be an inteeresting battle between the new Andorid phones and the new iPhone.

The promo video was great (as is all Apple marketing)

I especially liked the way they sold video conferencing as if it was a new ground-breaking technology that we'd never seen before.

You know I was thinking I would wait until the iPhone 4 in white was available - but has anyone seen a pic of the phone without any graphics on it (not turned on or in sleep mode). I am thinking it'll look different without being all black. Plus, I use my phone to show pics on it and I am wondering if the white won't be the best "framing" for pictures and/or video. Hmmmmmm.... anyone have any thoughts one way or another.

Personally, I thought the white iPhone 4 didn't look too good. I'd prefer the black -- and I have a white 3G and really like it.

The camera is cool, but looking at the sensor and lens it won't rival a DSLR.

Multi-tasking OS is cool ... maybe.

HD video is kind of neat.

But you all are missing the best part.

With new/better antennas and increased broadcast power, the damn thing might also function as a telephone without dropping calls, failing to connect calls, failing to ring on inbound calls, failing to deliver voicemails on a timely basis. That's what interests me.

I have one on order to replace my iPhone 3G. Hopefully by the 24th, AT&T will get their server problems resolved so i can activate it.
