Ok as most of you know I opened a can of worms the other day that I did not mean to open.

Because of this I feel like I have been hung out to dry. Some of you have nicely told me to hang in there that it will pass but some of you have not been so nice to me.

Several of you have mentioned that I am suspicious because I "post to much"

Well I cant help that I have a lot of time on my hands. I am a 29 year old female who is home on a long term medical leave. I spend the day at home doing nothing so I post or play with my camera. Since DPC is about something I love I spend a lot of time in here, scrolling the how to's, admiring past work, playing on the boards, and learning. I thought that was what DPC was about. I did't think it was a bad thing.

I am not this Rose person. Nor am I this Faye person. I came across DPC doing a google search for photography contests.

With that being said, I guess I will not be staying around. It is a shame because I thought I had found a place I could grow and learn and perhaps share. I guess I was wrong.

For those of you that I had made friends with. Thank you for the lessons, the laughter, and the companionship.
For those I have offended - Im sorry.
For those I didnt get the chance to meet - maybe one day!

Im going to let my membership run out (it expires in 21 days) - I have two images in voting that Ill let finish. I canceled my entries for the upcoming contests. But I wont be on the boards anymore.

Take Care-
Carrie

nice to meet you...again.

Now quit having a pity party and stick around

Carrie,

Sorry, pity parties aren't allowed. ;oP

Your enthusiasm is contagious.

ETA: glad you're staying

I thought you had thick skin? Screw those that have issues with whatever. You can't please all of the people all of the time so who cares. You said that you had made some friends and have learned stuff already so who cares if some people don't like you, that is life. But if you want to go then go for it, people come and go all the time but I think you are jumping the gun here.

'Methinks the lady doth protest too much' Shakespeare.

Perhaps less enthusiasm to join a thread and more careful reading of the topic is in order.

Stick around and learn. If you leave now, tongues will wag and mention her who cannot be named!!
06/04/2010 05:11:17 PM · #6
Ah, screw 'em! There is always drama around her, so might as well get used to it, lol. That's part of the evil fun.
Now, get your newbie, learnin', shootin', poutin' arse back to work!! :P There are pictures to be taken and ribbons to be won!

Seriously, people like you are what we like having around. Don't let the barking dogs chase you away. :)

Come on Carrie, don't take it so hard. You unwittingly hit a tender spot, it happens all the time. One of the joys and perils of the internet is that the relative anonymity will produce unrestrained reactions. It isn't personal. I've been in nasty battles over in rant land with people I genuinely like and admire.

Stick around, its as good a place to learn and argue as I have found on the interwebs. There may be an etiquett on posting, but I don't know what the limits are. Those of us who have been around for years have heard many topics come up time after time and wish people would look there for their answers; forgetting that it is only our memories of those long ago threads that make them possible to find. Some of us remember being new to the boards and will cut new folks some slack.

Every workplace, school or place where humans gather by choice has its share of grumps, its style of teasing and what is considered offensive, and there are indeed third rails that run about this place. You found one. If you stick around you will find more, eventually only touching them when you want to get a rise out of certain folk; it can be fun

But it is your decision to stay or go, but I think it would be a mistake to leave. If you decide to go, Vaya con Dios

I think resistance is just natural, that's just how humans behave socially. It just gets exaggerated when you cannot see the other person physically, you think you can say/write whatever you want to.

I remember my first days on DPC too. There are people who are open minded. Then there are others who seem to come here just to vent off on this virtual platform because they cannot deal with what's out there in reality. But the best ones are those who are open minded, AND are true resources, who make it totally worthwhile sticking around (check out the extraordinary outreach awards).

As someone said below, you can't please everyone. And you can't change how things are run.

I call it DPC-evolution. The first time people walk in, the 'herd' becomes wary... you are looked upon with suspicion. As long as you look down and walk in silently, getting hurled away and shoo-ed down, you may - just MAY - have a chance at being here long enough to appreciate what's in the core - helping hands, great photographers, and above all, some great human beings!

Now you may be one of those who, as they are walking in, try to 'genuinely' spark new ideas. Oh dear! What have you done! You just challenged a majority's ego who think only they are entitled to suggest improvements JUST because they have been in the herd longer? :-):-)

Anyways, this is what DPC is. In fact this is what life is. Things fall out and in naturally.

Now lemme get back to my day job;-)

Hey, getting mistaken for Rose is a real honour around here ;)

For the record, and she'll kick my arse for saying anything...she is getting LOTS of VERY UGLY pms by members because of her question!

Who the hell do these people think they are, anyway...beside very full of themselves!

Kat, I still have some nasty grams from last year, I just didn't make the names of the authors public, it's just not worth it. However, whoever they were, they did receive their share of my love, one way or another:-)

Unfortunately internet bullying has taken a big form of self-therapy for stressed out souls.

I was just going to keep my mouth shut...but well... that really isn't how I roll.

I sent her a PM earlier today (I didn't even know what was going on) to tell her hi and offer each other help as we are both newbies. Then I saw this thread and THEN I saw the other thread. I can understand Carrie's frustration, but I don't understand why she would want to "leave". Her choice for sure.

I know that there are people on here that say some mean things, but I have thick skin and move on. I find this site more helpful than hurtful, so I take the small amount of bad with the overwhelming good.

I hope that she sees it too...

I'm also in communication with her, trying to explain why people are reacting as they are. I certainly hope she's not classifying *me* in the ugly category, is all I can say :-(

No Bear. I am not. You just got my bite because my feelings were trashed and I am sorry. You were just trying to help. I appreciate it.

My thick skin is a bit different... you can trash my work, but when it gets personal I tend to have thinner skin. Im not a bad person and I hate being made to feel like I am. Not to mention my fibro is flared so Im emotional as it is.

I just sent her a pm to encourage her to stick around. I hadn't read this thread, so she might not even read what I wrote. I think we need enthusiastic members who participate. It's a shame some people are so threatened by suggestions, or get upset about a repeated idea.

C'mon people--she just asked a question!

Carrie,
I am also relatively new here. And yes, one of the things I quickly noticed is that people love to gripe and complain on the forums. About everything.
The same people who gripe and complain about not getting enough comments, will then gripe and complain about people suggesting that more comments be made.
The same people who gripe and complain about troll votes, will then gripe and complain about people suggesting solutions.
And the same people who gripe and complain, tend to gripe and complain about other people's griping and complaining ;-)

And yes, I would say its a make it or break it for staying on this site. Either you are not bothered by the complaining, learn not to be bothered, or start to ignore it....or you might likely not like the site very much and will leave.
I for one encourage you to try and look past it. This site has so many valuable aspects that are photography related, helpful picture, tutorials, and people (yes, even the complaining people are often helpful). Personally, I wouldn't miss it for the world.
I'd be glad if you stuck around.

EDIT: Well dang. Here I go spend the time trying to think of a thoughtful response...and the issue is resolved before i even post :-P

Good for you Carrie! There are plenty of nice, helpful people here and even if they've been here a long time and read every question a dozen times, they'll still try to help, so hang in there and don't let the others get you down!

Looking forward to seeing more entries from you! :-)
