Hello from the Critique Club.

First thoughts when the photo popped on to my screen - 'what a delightful image'! You have a very pretty model, and the rather whistful pose really seems to suit her eyes and looks. It gives the feeling of a quiet individual, a kind and gentle person. I have no idea if she really is, of course, but that a portrait can give a viewer a sense of connection and inspire thoughts about the real person behind the two-dimensional portrait, I consider to be a mark of success on the part of the photographer.

The light is in the main lovely,maybe just a tad too bright on the left cheek, and I like the interesting wooden background. In relation to the challenge, I do wonder whether an environmental portrait may have suited better, but as a stand-alone photograph, I like this very much. My main critical point is the framing, and I wonder whether cropping a slither from the bottom may make for a more flattering photo.

What I really take away from this is that your wife is the sort of person I would love to know, and the mental image of her that I build up from this photograph is, perhaps, the person I would like to be. Pretty big impression on me!

Way to go against what everyone was expecting in this challenge, and being rewarded for it. Sometimes when you climb out on a limb around here, it just snaps off and you come crashing down. This limb held firm and you got a decent score (still too low, though) and fantastic comments on a fantastic photo that I'm sure means a great deal to you and your wife. Some of us just entered pretty seascape sunrises that really have no autobiographical meaning at all. We were just being score whores.

For the record I gave this an 8 - there are the technicals (lighting, composition, focus) that are very well done, but it is the recognition of the beauty of a woman. A special someone close to you that you love, that makes a statement of a very human emotion - love. And it affirms that you don't have to be a super-model to be beautiful.

its a cool shot, but there's more you can do here. Personal opinion: his eyes meet the image title, but the lip not so much and the posture definitely not at all. Maybe a crop around the defining features would be more aligned with your image title. Or pick a different image title. Grass blurred in the foreground doesn't seem to do much for ya.
