*Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*

An interesting image that is assumed to meet the challenge.

What a lovely old vehicle, at rest until someone has the courage and tenacity to restore it back to its former glory. I like the low key way you have exposed the truck that emphasises its demise, it works well. I would also like the greenery if it wasn't so oversaturated, its a real shame because for me it detracts although I suppose you could interpret it as even in the face of death there is new growth and new hope. Looking at the greenery on the left it looks as though you have saturated the green channel as a whole, you really don't want anything in this position to dominate this area of the image the way it does.

I think you have a winning image here that toned back to its original would work even better, thanks for your submission, and apologies for the late critique, Sid

*Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*

An unusual image that meets the challenge well.

Your unusual viewpoint has made for a fascinating image that gives us a view of the needles that we wouldn't normally be able to appreciate. For instance, I hadn't realised that the tips appear to have a distinctive surface on their lower half presumably to harden and sharpen them.

I am intrigued at the incredibly shallow DOF you have with such a small aperture but your focus is very accurately placed on that lower half of the needle point which emphasises that surface. I like your composition, it works well the OOF background image provides an interesting backdrop that has something of an 'aliens' feel to it. All in all an excellent and true macro as opposed to the many close ups in the challenge, they are indeed truly inanimate. I scored it a 7 during the challenge and would do so again.

Nicely done, thanks for your submission and apologies for the delayed critique, as they say, 'better late than never', or at least I hope it is, Sid

Thank you all for the voting and the comments. It really was a joy to see my daughter and fiancee be a part of my photos. Also, always a good way to add to our collection here at work.

Charm in the subjects, beauty in the background. I like the way the turn of the heads shows the features.

If I find myself staring at a picture for more than a few seconds, I have to stop staring and analyze. This is beautiful! The subject matter - a lot of people take pix of themselves with their children. That isn't unusual, and the parents/kids are usually wonderful. But what is so wonderful about this picture to me are the colors, contrasts, the flowing currents between people and nature, the balance between the layers, the framing. It's beautiful. I think the focus is off in places, and that there might be a little more contrast between the elements in it (it seems too soft to me - maybe softness could have been conveyed only on the human subjects) - but this is awesome and thank you for sharing.

What a lovely child! And I love your idea.

I wish the BW conversion were a bit better... As someone described it to me, "There needs to be true white and true black... and then shades in between."

I'm missing the brightness... and it ends up feeling a bit drab.
