Cool shot that should have scored a little higher.

I think the reason we're seeing low scores is because of DPL. Voting has been skewed since DPL started a few weeks ago. I know this challenge wasn't in the DPL but there's something fishy going on with the voting in all challenges.

Hello from the Critique Club-
I am a fan of your composition- I really like how the viewer focuses on her eye first, then directs their attention up the shaft of the umbrella to where she is looking. The only issue, however, is that it feels like I should be looking at the umbrella, but it isn’t really the focus of the shot. In fact, I’m left wondering what exactly is the focal point. Fashion typically wants you to focus on specific items that are being displayed, either that or the model themselves. While I think your composition here was pleasing, I don’t find that it fits with the subject matter of the challenge. There are some background elements that distract slightly, but I feel like the lack of a clear focus is more of an issue. You’ve got some orange leaking into the sky in the top left, and I’m not too sure what that is, as it should presumably be pure white. This photo works quite well as a candid portrait. I just feel like this was the wrong challenge for it. The gray portion of the border is a little too similar to the hues of the photo as well. I’d prefer something a bit more sharply contrasting.

This might have benefitted from some noise reduction. I love the color on the wings!

Interesting, what is it crawling out of? I wish the ant were a bit sharper.

Hi there. This image didn't stand out for me. I just gave it a 4 and moved on. That's a bit of a harsh vote, but basically my method is to start at 3 and bring the score up from there. I gave you an additional point for not looking like a standard landscape, but stopped at 4 because I don't think you did enough with your "strip" concept.

The tones are rather ... normal. They neither "pop" with high contrast nor do they purr with low contrast, not any other effect. The composition is bland, no energy. It is mostly symmetrical.

The trees are interesting and different from each other. In fact, this "strip" might be significantly better just by being in a larger format where you can more easily enjoy the individual trees.

However... I can't see the forest for the trees.

I was looking at the latest issues of Japanese photo mags today. There was a series of pictures from Nepal, and one featured a flute seller with a set-up just like these guys. I just find it incredible that there's a market for them.
